Amber Claire is a recording artist that has had much success. She achieved a gold album in New Zealand “Love and Such”. This album yielded three singles, including a Top 10 hit in 2003 with “At 17”, which peaked at No.6.
Amber Claire then went on to record a second album with Sony in 2004. Titled “The Great Escape”, it was a collection of classics and new songs. An American movie released in 2014, “Baggage Claim” featured one of these songs, showcasing her voice to the world.
In 2017 she reunited with her “The Great Escape” album producer Jim Hall for a new recording project. Together they completed another set of recordings for release. Amber has been signed to a major label and her third album was released on Itunes in 2018.
Whilst promoting her earlier two albums she gained invaluable experience performing as support artist to high profile international artists Jamie Cullum, Sarah McLachlan and Josh Kelly.
Amber graduated with a first class distinction in Master of Visual Arts which has leaned her towards her involvement in the fashion clothing industry. She is a style consultant for Trelise Cooper. She continues to be an artist, holding her own exhibitions from time to time. Additionally she enjoys researching and sourcing costuming and vintage clothing.
As a long time member of the band, vocalist Amber Claire continues working with The Mermaids Dance Band throughout New Zealand.
Amber’s voice has great versatility across many genres. She features as lead vocalist on the “Rock With You” video on the band’s Videos Page, a Michael Jackson song. Her vocal timbre is both flexible and ethereal, thus singing funk, rock, R & B, and quirky one hit wonders all come as easily to her, as her wistful, spacious easy-on-the-ear, trademark style.
Like all three vocalists she is an integral one third of the fabulous harmonies The Mermaids are known for.
