Rebecca Wright has been with "The
Mermaids" since January 2005 and has travelled around New Zealand
with the band - from Wanaka, Waiheke Island, Rotorua, Wanganui and
Hamilton to Auckland, (and that was just in the first week).
Rebecca has a soul style voice with a great range
and strength especially in the upper register. She recently
completed additional vocal training in the UK (during 2005).
The following sound-files recorded April 2005 are
songs from "The Mermaids" repertoire featuring Rebecca on lead
vocals: "Last Dance" (Donna
Summer) and "Let's Hear It
For The Boy" (Deniece Williams).
Above Becks
belts out Janis Joplin's "Piece of my Heart" on NZ Idol.
Rebecca
is also available for solo performances, please contact via this website

Rebecca
Wright is recently played the lead female role in the New Zealand
production of Andrew Lloyd Webber' "Starlight
Express".
And
from March/April 2010 she will be performing in the NZ version of
"Rent".
Rebecca is a trained dancer (ballet,
modern jazz, contemporary, hip hop, salsa) as well as being a gymnast. She has a Bachelor of Arts (Education, Dance and Popular Music).
Rebecca has sung with several other covers bands
prior to this group. She has also toured
with several musical theatre productions. She appeared as a
solo performer at the 2005 Christmas in the Park and "Starlight
Symphony".
Rebecca was a part
of NZ Idol 2006. She reached the Top 10 and was voted off at position No.7 - something of a shock exit,
as
she had not even visited the bottom two prior to that night.
Becks previously
had been touted as a favourite to win, so this result left many fans and
viewers bewildered.
